The Court of Jogoso
Shibas welcomes you to our castle. Jogoso is our registered kennel name
with Nihonken Hozonkai (Nippo). Jogoso means “Castle in the
Countryside”.
At Jogoso Shibas,
we believe in quality, not quantity. Our main focus is producing
healthy puppies with stable temperaments for lifelong family
companionship while strictly adhering to the guidelines set forth by
Nippo. Our beliefs are based on a love of the breed and preservation as
per Nippo standards.
All of our dogs
live in the home and are a part of our family. We believe firmly in
testing for the potential of Hip Dysplasia,
luxating patellas and eye
disorders. We require OFA and
CERF examinations on all our animals
before breeding.
All our puppies are
AKC registerable and occasionally we also will have Nippo registerable
puppies.
At Jogoso Shibas,
we plan a few litters a year in the hopes of keeping one for ourselves.
The rest of the litter is placed in show or companion homes. All puppies
are spoken for before they are even conceived. So do not be
surprised to have to wait for a well bred Shiba as most breeders do not
have them readily available, waiting around for homes.
All Puppies from
Jogoso Shibas are unconditionally guaranteed for their entire lifetime.
While our puppies have been successful in the show ring, we are most
concerned with the people that come looking for a family pet and
companion. Our puppies are raised in our home where traffic is the
heaviest and are exposed to other dogs, small children and cats, early
in development.
We also believe
that as breeders, we should always be available to the puppy buyer as a
constant and continuing reference. We welcome questions about the breed
and about development and training. We encourage the use of force-free
training for our puppies. Our gentle methods of creating a well loved
friend are easy to use and effective. We provide all puppy owners with
current, accurate information on dog training based on canine biology,
physiology and conditioning principles. It is up to you, the new owner
to follow through with the puppy’s training by taking him to
Socialization and/or Puppy Classes. Shibas can become headstrong if not
raised correctly.

"No
breed can hope to improve unless breeders are dissatisfied with
anything short of perfection. Self-satisfaction is stultifying. A
breeder should live in a state of dissatisfaction and abounding hope."
